Thanking Telford College

Hi lovelies!

Hope you are all feeling awesome! I had my results back from my retakes in August, Maths and English, and man I’m I proud of myself! 😊

Telford College of Arts and Technology have been AMAZING, I am truly grateful for the experience as an adult learner and couldn’t be happier with what I achieved. I managed to get a 3 in maths, which is a D grade in the old system…. ok so not fabulous BUT better than an F way back when I was in school! I really struggled with maths so I feel I’ve made progress 🤓

As for English… I got a 6, which is like a B+, which is awesome, right?? My English teacher was amazing and the very reason I’m in the process of writing my first novel let a lone the whole reason I started this blog!!! I was approached by Telford College and asked to do an interview for their website and I jumped at the chance to let everyone know how impressed I have been with them.

so here is the interview 😃

Telford College helps author Stevie to write a new chapter

Published: September 8, 2017
Mother-of-three Stevie Williams has thanked Telford College for helping her to launch an exciting new career as a writer.

The 32-year-old, from Bratton, went back to the classroom to re-take her maths and English GCSEs – and says the experience has opened up a host of exciting possibilities.

She said: “I came to a point in my life where as much as I love being a mum, I wanted something more; something for myself. So I thought, what better way than to get further education?

“I’ve always loved reading, but writing suddenly took over and it’s all I wanted to do. I needed practice though. So I decided to start a blog, creativelit.blog, for English lovers alike, to get the creative juices flowing.

“I owe thanks to tutor David Fitchett and Telford College for giving me the opportunity to make this first change in my life.”

Telford College celebrated its best-ever GCSE results this year, with particularly strong performances in maths and English. The number of students achieving A* to C grades – or 9-4 grades under the new system – was up nearly 19 per cent.
High grades were up by more than 25 per cent across the college’s two sites for English, and over 10 per cent for maths. Overall pass rates in maths and English topped 92 per cent

Stevie attended an open day at the college, and was advised to re-take maths and English as a first step.

“My first thought was to do an access course and study nursing – that was until I found a passion for writing,” she said.

“I met some lovely people, made friends and enjoyed learning something new. My English lessons were fantastic. David is an amazing teacher; he truly gave me a passion I never realised I had.

“He changed the way I read and looked at books, being able to put what I’ve learnt into my everyday reading and writing. There are many career possibilities for me now, and I have no idea where it might take me.

“My blog has taken off and I have had authors contact me through it, and I have done book reviews and interviews for them. I’ve also started writing a novel myself – where that will go, who knows, but I’m enjoying it.”

She added: “To anyone considering signing up at Telford College, I’d say go for it. The experience of learning as an adult is so different to when I was at school.

“The atmosphere is fabulous and the teachers and staff so helpful. I want to encourage and inspire people to never give up, even if you’re not sure what you want to do or have no idea what path to take, the best thing is to make that change and do something.

“Going back to college was one of the most frightening things I’ve done in a while, but it was well worth it, and the first hurdle in a better future.”

Tutor David Fitchett said: “Stevie has been a fantastic student, and I know it’s just the beginning of great things for her.

“She soon made friends, rediscovered her passion for studying and now aims to progress to a higher level in the subject.”
