If you haven’t yet heard….. I’M OBSESSED with this series, full on fangirling out, dreaming about it, re-reading it, fanart, even hassling the authors hehe, they are super awesome ladies by the way! I just can’t get enough, I even held off reviewing because I couldn’t possibly of put this down to write… no way!

But now I’m ready to tell the world just how breathtakingly beautiful and amazing this series is, starting with book one – After the Ending.

“It’s just a bad case of the flu, I’m sure”,

I don’t think so……

“The first book in the emotionally charged post-apocalyptic series: THE ENDING SERIES.

The Virus spread. Billions died. The Ending began. We may have survived the apocalypse, but the Virus changed us.” *Amazon*

Upon reading these very lines I purchased all of the books (Book One is free!! Kindle addition)

I devoured these books in a week.

So let’s talk about book one….. I love apocalyptic books, and with awesome twists even better. The POV of each main character, Dani and Zoe, split the book up and it really worked! You got to delve deep into both sides of the story, their struggle to find one another and all the drama in between is brilliant. It hooked me in right from the start with the questions burning through my soul of what is happening and how on earth are they going to get through this!!! Obviously some hot guys with smouldering grins, that’s what! I mean what else, it is an apocalyptic romance after all.

As you get to know the characters you can’t help but fall in love with them (not just the hot guys either). Dani is so funny, she made me laugh and cry out loud. This small fiery redheaded girl, thrown in head first into this crazy world with everything falling around her…..  and her best friend Zoe. Zoe is deep, she is a complex character written perfectly!

As it unfolds and they are getting closer and closer to each other, it really builds up hope and friendship at it’s best! During this book, the friends are in touch via email and this was a favourite apart for me, don’t get me wrong the romance is truly amazing and I really enjoyed Dani and Jason’s banter, it was great! And the passion delicious! But that really isn’t the only reason this book stood out to me. The friendship was so real…. kind of reminded me of myself and my best friend…. you really do need a friend to tell everything too.

I really recommend this book, if you all some good twists in a not so normal world and some racey romance, don’t hesitate to read it! Team Lindsey have truly created an amazing world with so many memorable characters!

Fab quotes:

“I’m dead, I admitted. Jason never cries. He probably doesn’t know how to cry” Dani

“I was nestled safely in Jason’s arms and listening to him whisper softly while I remembered what it was like to be alive. I’m not dead.” Dani

“Sometimes, the smallest, least important thing could light the fuse leading to the mounds of emotional dynamite piled in my head” Dani

“The newspaper slipped from between my fingers. Frozen in place, I was suffocated by the reality of our situation” Zoe

“The memories disintegrated into anger, sorrow, fear, and loneliness that gripped my heart and tugged on it as though they were trying to remove it from my chest completely.” Zoe

“I’d decided to go after you hours before we left, and she knew it….. and dammit, Dani, I’d make the same decision every time if it meant you’d survive”. Jason

“Although my muscles protested nearly every movement, especially my shoulder, something about the physical pain was comforting. It was a declaration that I was a survivor; despite the insanity and danger of the last couple weeks, I was still alive.” Zoe

“Had I known life was as changeable as the clouds looming above, would I have taken a different path?” Zoe

Hope you have enjoyed my review, there is more to come. I’ll review book two “Into the Fire” next week and also an Author interview coming soon and more than likely some more fanart!

Happy reading and as always I’ve added links to each book title for you to easily purchase.

OBSESSED! The Ending Series

So I screwed up….. I became HOOKED…. I became the FANGIRL!!!!

This series has me by the heartstrings and it’s dragged me in deep! Clearly obsessed and captivated by the whole thing.

It wasn’t supposed to be like this….. I was supposed to write a review after each book…. “Go on Stevie, ‘After the Ending’ was great, amazing even, write a review on your blog….

WWWHHHHAAAAAAATTTT???? And stop reading? Are you crazy? Oh god, it’s a crazie….. I’m a crazie???!!! No, chill out you’re just fangirling, you’re obsessed….. you’re not insane…..

I argued with myself for at least a few minutes before starting book 2 ‘Into the Fire’ 🙂

Anyway, so as I continued this for the next week and a half, where I completely absorbed ALL four books, I don’t remember sleeping much…. My kids in the background, good job ‘Dad’ was around to feed them! haha. I just couldn’t stop reading… for real!! I’ve accepted the fact that I’m addicted, and I have decided to dedicate my blog posts to ‘The Ending Series’ while I’m fangirling so badly, I need to get my thoughts out there, I’m in love!

Coming up: Full book review of each book:

Fantasy casting! This would make for an epic movie series!

And author interviews coming soon from the lovely and talented Lindsey Pogue & Lindsey Fairleigh…. YAY, team Lindsey!!!

Plus some, if I don’t say so myself, awesome fanart! Here is a few I’ve already done:

If you haven’t yet read ‘The Ending Series’, and you love apocalyptic novels with a twist, then you should 100% read these books. They are beautifully written and the romance is heartwarming and HOT. I’ve laughed and cried, it has been a real journey with the most unforgettable characters. Don’t hesitate to pick up this incredible series, it truly is addictively amazing! I’ve added links to the book titles, so feel free to click away to purchase the books with ease.

I’ll leave you with the synopsis of each book taken from Amazon, take a look and let me know what you think…. something you’d read? Maybe you have? if so feel free to share with me your thoughts.

Enjoy…… Happy reading and peace out!!

512Yjqs-e+L The first book in the emotionally charged post-apocalyptic series: THE ENDING SERIES.
The Virus spread. Billions died. The Ending began. We may have survived the apocalypse, but the Virus changed us.

When people started getting sick, “they” thought it was just the flu. My roommate, my boyfriend, my family…they’re all gone now. I got sick too. I should have died with them–with the rest of the world–but I didn’t. I thought witnessing the human population almost disappear off the face of the earth was the craziest thing I’d ever experience. I was so wrong. My name is Dani O’Connor, I’m twenty-six-years-old, and I survived The Ending.

The Virus changed everything. The world I knew is gone, and life is backwards. We’ve all had to start over. I’ve been stripped of my home, my dreams…all that is me. I’m someone else now–broken and changed. Other survivors’ memories and emotions haunt me. They invade my mind until I can no longer separate them from my own. I won’t let them consume me. I can’t. My name is Zoe Cartwright, I’m twenty-six-years-old, and I survived The Ending.

We’ve been inseparable for most of our lives, and now our friendship is all we have left. The aftermath of the Virus has stranded us on opposite sides of the United States. Trusting strangers, making sacrifices, killing–we’ll do anything to reach one another. Fear and pain may be unavoidable, but we’re strong…we’re survivors. But to continue surviving in this unfamiliar world plagued by Crazies and strange new abilities, we have to adapt. We have to evolve.

And more than anything, we have to find each other.

The Virus changed them, but that was only the beginning…
…all that remains is hope.

In the wake of destruction left behind by the Virus, it took Dani and Zoe months to find each other. But their reunion was short-lived. Dani has been taken, and though little distance separates them, they might as well be worlds apart.

From the moment she hears Dani’s scream, Zoe’s only goal is to save her best friend. She and her companions scramble to come up with a rescue plan, but when a ghost from Jake’s past reappears, lines are blurred, decisions become harder, and secrets are revealed…and some secrets are best left buried. To keep heartache and fear from consuming her, Zoe must cling to her determination. She WILL see Dani again.

Dani awakens inside the final hold-out of civilization: the Colony. Remnants of the former world surround her–electricity, safety, social order–but all is not what it seems. As she faces her most manipulative adversary yet, she loses sight of who she is and who she can trust. Friends become enemies, enemies become allies, and allies will betray her. Dani will have to decide what she’s willing to do and whose lives she’s willing to risk if she is to have any chance of breaking free.

Into The Fire is the second installment in the bestselling post-apocalyptic sci-fi series The Ending, that picks up where After The Ending left off. It is fast paced, has a lot of action, Crazies linger around every corner, and secrets come to life that will change Dani and Zoe’s worlds forever…all with a touch of romance. Continue reading Dani and Zoe’s adventures today!

The third book in THE ENDING SERIES. The first book in the series is FREE:

Hope brought them together, but it’s now fear that drives them…and threatens to tear them apart.

Zoe and her companions succeeded in rescuing Dani from the Colony. But not without sacrifice. Beaten and broken, they head west, determined to leave behind the torment and horrors they experienced in Colorado.

As Dani and Zoe make the perilous trek home to Bodega Bay, they learn that danger can take many forms–other survivors, their friends, even themselves–and that things are rarely what they seem. Zoe is desperate to become the woman she sees in others’ memories, while Dani struggles to conceal damaging secrets, risking losing herself–her humanity–completely. Together, they must rediscover the true meaning of friendship, love, and trust, and learn just how hard they’re willing to fight for what remains of their shattered world.

As relationships are put to the test, second chances are given, and new life emerges, death lurks in the most unlikely of places. To survive, Dani and Zoe must accept that sometimes hope alone isn’t enough.

Out Of The Ashes is the third installment in the bestselling post-apocalyptic sci-fi series, The Ending, and features gut-wrenching struggles, more secrets revealed, the test of true friendship, all with a touch of romance. Follow the third saga of Dani and Zoe’s epic adventure today!

The final book in THE ENDING SERIES. The first book in the series, After The Ending, is FREE!

A year ago, the Virus killed off most people in the world.

A year ago, strange things started happening to those who survived. Some of them transformed into something dark and sinister, while others evolved, becoming something more, something beyond human.

A year ago, Dani and Zoe were lost. They traversed the country to find one another, losing some of the people dearest to them along the way. They fought for their right to simply live, uncovered long-buried secrets, and discovered irreversible truths. And after everything Dani and Zoe have been through–even with the battle wounds that they bear–they’re still not safe.

It’s time for the struggle to end, for survivors to take back their lives, their families, their safety. It’s time to really begin to live, and to do that, they must wait for the first rays of dawn.

Into the Shadows: Book review

Book review

Into the Shadows – a few facts

Author: Marie Jones

Genre: Romance, Mystery, Suspense

Published: 23rd December 2015

More from: The Edge – A short story

The building tension and suspense is brilliant!!

Maire Jones has no doubt an amazing talent at hooking you in right from the start! The contrast at the beginning with Lily talking herself in and out of going back to Dingle is pure genius, gripping you in with Lily’s unsure feelings, battling inside her head. The picture painted of Lily inside my own head began developing straight away…..

“I’m not the girl you would secretly admire, dream, envy you were more like.”

I knew right there and then, reading that line, this story, Lily’s journey was going to be motivational, inspiring and emotional…. and believe me, it was that and so much more!! Being written in 1st person, I felt as one with Lily and was with her the whole way though with all the emotions rolling in my own head.

I truly could not put this book down, it gave me a couple of “book hangovers” over the time it took to read it…. my family suffered hehe, not really they are used to me by now! With every turning page, I’d be begging my eyes to stay open….. just one more page! That’s how the plot left me, battling to carry on and find out more.

The characters were so real and very relatable. I enjoyed the conversation between Lily and Nina, Lily’s roommate, when Lily had told Nina why she was dropping everything to go back to Dingle, her reaction was brilliant!! Her ranting away and sarcasm was incredibly funny yet you felt the strong friendship between them. I’d of loved for Nina and Lily to have a bit more time together in the story as I really did love their banter, fantastic!!

The romance!!! Oh, the romance. David, well Lily and David’s first meeting was pure fireworks, although poor Lily getting the hot end of that firework, not that I blame David…. the shock of the photo obviously hurt him, what better way to start a romance though eh?! Plus what better way to bring Lily out of her shell by her being needed, relied on and just having to help this man solve the mystery. Clearly drawing them in closer and building their relationship over the chapters. And that kiss!

Into the Shadows is beautifully written, the descriptions of Dingle and “Inch Beach” really brought the whole story to life! An amazing read that has got me wanting more….. please 🙂

Amazons description:

Lily Crossways lives a controlled life, where she ensures she never experiences hurt or disappointment. Until, that is, she returns home from a short holiday in Dingle, where she discovers an eerie image of a desperate woman on one of her photographs. How can that be, when Lily was alone that day on Inch beach? Who is this woman, is she even real, and why has she appeared to Lily? The woman seems to be calling to her, if only Lily can rescue her. Compelled to find her, Lily returns to Dingle and her search leads her to cafe owner David Carson, this missing woman’s brother, and the man who will turn Lily’s life upside down in every way possible. Lily must now convince him to trust in her, taking bold steps to prove herself to him, and together track down his sister before it’s too late. But nothing can prepare Lily for the secrets she uncovers about herself, her own family and how all their lives were destined to become intertwined from a distant childhood visit.

Author interview:

Maire was kind enough to answer some questions for me, especially for my blog book review. I tried to come up with some different questions for Marie, and shes answered them all brilliantly.

  1. What is the first book that made you cry?

It was ‘Little Women’ by Louisa Alcott, the part when Beth dies. Still makes me want to well up now just thinking about it.

  1. Does writing energise you or exhaust you?

Most of the time it energises me, but sometimes when you’ve written an emotional scene it can leave you feeling quite exhausted by the end. I do find though I may feel tired before writing, or more accurately by the thought of sitting down to write when I really just want to be a couch potato, but once I get going I become energised!

  1. What is your writing kryptonite?

My phone – especially when it beeps at me with a message and it’s so tempting to read it immediately, but by doing that I lose concentration and momentum on what I was writing.

  1. What was an early experience where you learned that language had power?

I think loving reading from a very early age, I grew to love how they can transform you to a different world, time, life even that you’ve never lived yourself, nor likely to. It expanded my imagination, and my desire to want to write novels myself.

  1. What’s your favourite under-appreciated novel?

I’ve always preferred ‘Persuasion’ by Jane Austen to ‘Pride and Prejudice’, but its always the lesser known one, the poorer cousin so to speak, which is a real shame. It has a very strong message about following your own heart’s desires, not other peoples desires for you.

  1. What’s your favourite series?

I loved ‘The Night Manager’ that was on TV some time back, based on the book. Also, I’m a huge fan of ‘Poldark’ (though my favourite character is not Poldark himself as you would expect but Dr Enys)

  1. How many hours’s a day do you write?

Not enough! I usually get around 1-2 hours a day around working as a Teaching Assistant in a school, and looking after my own two children after school. I would love to be a full time writer, but that’s currently just a pipedream…

  1. Did you edit a lot out of this book?

I edited out some scenes which I decided took away from the main story of Into The Shadows, but never a great amount overall. However, I do have to do several edits to the point I get word blind!

  1. How do you select the names for your characters?

I play around with different names as I visualise how they look and sound, until I found the one that I feel fits. It’s working on instinct really, like naming your own children when they are born.

  1. What was your hardest scene to write?

I would say the scenes between my two main characters, David and Lily when they are arguing and full of emotion, because I want the scenes to feel real and raw, and my readers to connect with them on an emotional level, to sympathise and understand them.

  1. Do you have a favourite author?

Jane Austen. Also love Kate Morton and Santa Montefiore.

  1. Do you like films adapted from books? …… If so which is your favourite?

I don’t mind films adapted from books as long as it’s not changed too drastically from the original book. The Help was one film that was well adapted, as was War Horse by Michael Morpurgo.

  1. Can you think of a fictional character you wouldn’t get along with? ….. Who? and from which novel?

I can’t name one particular, but a character that was either too fussy and whinging I would struggle to go along with, or one that was very judgemental. But you can’t have all nice, lovely characters – you’ve got to have at least one nasty character in there.

  1. Can you think of a fictional character you would go on a date with? …… Who? and from which novel?

Oh, well I’d quite like to go on a date with my own main male characters – David from Into The Shadows, and now Michael from my new novel I’m writing, The Perfect Storm! I think they are, secretly, my dream kind of men.

  1. Do you have a favourite book cover?

I love Santa Montefiore’s covers to her books. Always really striking.

  1. What do we have to look forward to from you next?

I am working away at my next novel, The Perfect Storm, set in the highlands of Scotland. Here’s a little taster of what the story is about:

When Sophia is unexpectantly visited by her old university friend, Aniella, her friend begs Sophia to stay at Aniella’s flat in Inverness and look after a safe hidden away, telling her that she is in fear of her life and must disappear for a while. Forced to act on her friend’s please, Sophia soon finds herself not only in danger herself but under suspicision from Detective Marcus Armstrong, who has the flat under survellience for reasons he won’t reveal…

Thank you, so much Maire for taking the time to answer my questions and give a little insight to your wonderful mind that created such a gorgeous and gripping story. I look forward to your next novel “The Perfect Storm”, and I truly rate your writing! It’s beautiful.

The Book:

Goodreads description:

Seventeen-year-old Darcy Prentiss has long held the title of “town slut.” She knows how to have a good time, sure, but she isn’t doing anything all the guys haven’t done. But when you’re a girl with a reputation, every little thing that happens seems to keep people whispering—especially when your ex-best friend goes missing.

But if anyone were to look closer at Darcy, they’d realise there’s a lot more going on beneath the surface. Staying out late, hooking up, and telling lies is what Darcy does to forget. Forget about the mysterious disappearance of her friend. Forget about the dark secret she and her cousin Nell share. Forget about that hazy Fourth of July night. So when someone in town anonymously nominates Darcy to be in the running for Bay Festival Princess—a cruel act only someone with a score to settle would make—all of the things that Darcy wants to keep hidden threaten to erupt in ways she wasn’t prepared to handle…and isn’t sure if she can.
